Libyan Pavilion at Shanghai Expo

Designed and built in 25 days

Client: Libyan Government
Service: Full Design Service
Size: 1,000 sqm

Project Details

The project to script content, design and supervise the installation of the Libyan pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo in 2010 ranks among MET’s most challenging in terms of timing and delivery due to the time it took us to complete the project from the first meeting with the client in Libya, to the doors opening to celebrate Libya Day.

MET Studio was contacted by architect Yi Ching and asked if we could help design, from scratch a new state of the art pavilion of 1,000sqm in 25 days that would realise the client’s desire to talk about Libya’s history and culture, and also showcase some of the highly environmentally-conscious building programmes of the current day in an educational and entertaining way.

The architect designed the new building envelope with MET tasked with creating the new interiors and exhibition, with co-ordination of the project and on-site works in the hands of the governmental agency, the Engineering Consulting Office for Utilities (ECOU) team and Chinese contractors.

It was only possible for MET to successfully complete the project on time and to our own high standards by working with some of the best AV hardware and software, graphic, and lighting designers and experts in the museum and exhibition industry that we know from the UK, including Graham English, DHA and Phillip Simpson.

'Where there is a will, there is a way. Nothing is impossible to achieve. It was a difficult, challenging and demanding task, but your joint efforts and teamwork have made it a success story after all. Those who have demonstrated their willingness to do their best in the execution of this project will always be appreciated' (Ecou Chairman)
